The Judgement of Paris

Finely stitched in coloured silks. Paris shown judging the three naked goddesses, Juno with her peacock, Minerva with her aegis (shield bearing a Gorgon’s head) and Venus with Cupid. Mercury is in the background. Juno promised great wealth to Paris, Minerva promised Victories, Venus promised love. The golden apple was awarded to Venus.
