Quen of Sheba and King Solomon

An unusual English stumpwork picture the central cartouche depicting the arrival of the Queen of Sheba to pay homage to King Solomon. The Royal figures are shown surrounded by servants and a camel bearing the Queen’s gifts. At the lower edge of the cartouche there is a coat of arms. The whole surrounded by typical applied motifs of flowers, birds, trees etc. Worked in a variety of stitches in coloured silks and metal thread.

English. Mid 17th century.

Framed and glazed.
