Needlework picture in coloured silks

A rare needlework picture worked in coloured silks with original gold lace border depicting the Martyrdom of St Stephen within a central cartouche set in a landscape containing, amongst other animals an elephant, camel and a large snipe. Superb condition.

English, mid 17th century.

Possibly made as a cushion cover.
